What is a Cold Press Soap Making Method?

Cold Press Method also known as Cold Process Method is made by combining natural oils and Sodium Hydroxide (Lye) without any heat element. This chemical reaction is known as Saponification. Vegetable oils are fatty esters in the form of triglycerides. Sodium Hydroxide, the alkali breaks the ester bond and releases the fatty acid salt and glycerol.

One of the benefits of Cold Process Soap is we can customize soap down to the last ingredient. Participants can choose the oil, colorants, scents, and other additives. Once the trace is achieved, you can start getting creativity with the designs.

The cons of cold press method – taking more than 48 hours for it to get saponified, hence the soap made cannot be used immediately.

Not suitable for kids and people that cannot handle Lye properly as it is considered a dangerous ingredient, that may cause caustic burn on our skin and breathing problem if inhaled.
